Jigoro Kano

"Consider fully, act decisively"

Our senior program is co-ed, and participants range in age from early-teens to those in their 60’s.  Practice sessions are on Tuesday and Thursday evening, from 7:05 – 9:00 pm.  Additional sessions are held on Sunday mornings during the tournament season for our competitive athletes to get in extra training time.

Sessions cover all areas of stand-up as well as mat-work techniques; self defense movements, including Kali/Escrima (Filipino stick fighting) are incorporated into our program at various times.  Overall fitness and improved body management are the aims of our senior practices and members work on those aspects that fit their personal goals. Cardio fitness is not ignored, and emphasis is placed on strength-endurance.  Our competitive members have very good success at  regional, provincial and national tournaments, returning with a fair number of medals and trophies.

Grading examinations are held on a regular basis, and advancement is based on the individuals’ commitment to training.

The senior program operates all year long, with prospective members joining at any time.
